Praised be Jesus Christ!
January's Carmelite book study of Carmelite Spirituality in the Teresian Tradition, by Paul-Marie of the Cross, OCD went so well! Thank you to all who joined.
For those new here, I have begun a Catholic book study group this year that delves specifically into Carmelite spirituality, writings of Carmel’s saints, and other beautiful books that explore the biography and spirituality of Carmelite saints.
February's reading will be twofold: we'll be reading the Rule that Carmelites follow, the Rule of St. Albert, since it is so central to their way of life, and therefore very important to our study of Carmelite spirituality and Carmelites. But since it is just a 15-20 min read, accessible for free online, we will also read the short book The Practice of the Presence of God, by Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, OCD. He had such a beautiful grasp on the contemplative life so central to Carmelite living, and he lived it in a tangible, simple, and realistic manner in the midst of the humble duties of his daily life. Very applicable lessons for those of us in the world, and a wonderful next read as we strive to apply Carmel's spirituality to our own lives.
Here is the link to the Rule of St. Albert to read online: https://ocdfriarsvocation.org/about-us/the-rule-of-st-albert-2/
And here are some places to purchase The Practice of the Presence of God (be sure you get the version of it that I have depicted - there is a beautiful, lengthy introduction in that one that is important not to miss!):
I will have a live meeting on my YouTube channel to discuss the material on Thursday, 2/29/24, at 7pm CST. Hope to see you there!! (http://www.youtube.com/@carmelitehomemaker) For those who cannot make the live meeting, it will be saved as a video you can go back to and can comment your thoughts on the book - I would still love to hear from you!
Comment “in!” if you’ll be reading with us this month! 🤎.
And please pass this on to others too - there is always so much growth from hearing other’s perspectives and insights!
